Do Apple’s 27-inch iMacs come with teething problems?

Just a couple of weeks back, Apple announced the launch and availability of the 27-inch iMac – £1,349 securing you one of these big-screen lovelies. But according to reports, you could be get a few unwanted problems too. Or should that be problem?

There’s a significant number of complaints focused on a specific issue on the Apple support boards, relating to incredibly slow Flash video playback  – think jerky YouTube playback with bad quality sound as an example. No-one quite knows why this is an issue, with claims that it is related to a bug forcing the hard drive to spin down, a corrupted Snow Leopard build pre-installed or just bad permissions. Either way, it seems to be a significant issue, although not affecting all machines.

In a way, it would be better if it did affect all machines, that should make it easier for Apple to find the problem and sort out a fix. Either way, we’re sure the company is now well aware of it and looking closely at it. In the meantime, if you happen to be affected, just comfort yourself with the fact that you’re not alone.
